My home has not been a haven lately.
There. It is out there for the world to see. Almost feels freeing, letting the secret out.
You see, we live in a Pintrest perfect society – where every birthday party or family cook out needs to look like the image you pin. Where you have to find a way to get a good picture for Instagram. Something cute or funny for your Snapchat or Instastory. Constantly thinking about a way to have a good tweet or Facebook Status.
We live for the highlight reel we give on Social Media.
Yet, if we were honest – our homes are not a haven – even if that is what we portray on social media. There is often stress to get the day to be just right. The smiles that are one the faces might be a little forced.
Yes, life is crazy sometimes.
That is why I love October. Every October, right at the beginning of Fall, I focus on my home.
Make Your Home a Haven Challenge
For the past few years, I have joined my friend Courtney from Women Living Well on a journey to Making Our Home a Haven. Making our homes a haven isn’t about perfection – it is about intention.
So, this year, instead of focusing on perfection – let’s be intentional with our time.
This month, I am going to share ways to be more intentional in creation of the atmosphere in our homes. We will follow the challenges (below and on Courtney’s website) but the heart behind the post will be that on being intentional. We will still share the practical ways – like recipes, game nights, and more – but we are going to boil down more to the heart of the reason why our homes should be a haven.
This Year’s Haven Challenge:
Week 1- The Atmosphere:
As Mama, we set the tone of our house. So, for week one, we will be talking about our tone. We are going to light a candle (or burn a diffuser! No Mommy hate allowed!) to remind us to focus on our tone. We are going to talk about some super practical ways we can set a positive atmosphere as well – and of course, we will dig into the heart issues as well!
Week 2- Serving:
During the second week of our challenge, we are going to focus on serving the ones that God has placed in our home -or those who might come into it! We are going to focus on our kitchens this week. During this week, you’ll find lots of great recipes, dinner conversations starters, and more!
Week 3- Love Language:
This week, we are going to lean in and really listen to those in our homes. Here at Worshipful Living, we are going to focus on Love Languages and talk about different ways our family members might feel loved. When those in our home feel loved by seeing love bestowed in the way they feel loved – it will change the atmosphere of the home!
Week 4- Focus Out:
This might seem like an odd topic- but this week, we are going to look outside of the home – to those on the outside. We are going to talk about ways to serve others in the community.
Make Your Home a Haven Memory Verse Cards
Focus on memorizing verses about the Fruit of the Spirit. To change the atmosphere of your home- you must start with your heart!
*Please note. Almost all the cards say week one. Just pick one or two to memorize each week!
Make sure you never miss one of these post by subscribing to our email list!
I highly encourage you to join over at Women Living Well this month as well!
So let me know – are you in?
