Today, Anne is going to share with us a beautiful reminder that it is not about who you are – but about whose you are! Anne writes:
There is a battle raging in your soul, a battle with eternal implications. The powers of good and evil are both intent on taking up residence in your heart and mind, and you have the final say on which side wins.
Warrior woman, you are not alone in this fight! Though the forces of evil are strong and relentless, the One on your side is indomitable and undefeatable.
Because the battle rages daily, it is easy to lose heart and weaken under the never-ending strain of the fight. Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed! Remember: the Lord your God is with you wherever you go… even into battle.
Who is this God Who stands by you? When the enemy presses in on you, it is vital that you remember Whose you are! Take up the shield of faith; take heart in the knowledge that He has you under His wing, you are His, and He will never let you down.
Whose You Are
Commander & Conqueror
In this battle against spiritual darkness, the Lord your God is the Commander of the forces of light. He goes before you into battle, preparing the way and sparing you from the worst of the enemy’s thrusts. He has rescued you from the domain of darkness to transfer you to His kingdom – He will not permit the darkness to swallow you up again.
Besides, this Supreme Commander is already the Conqueror! Through His leadership and the sacrifice of His Son, you are more than a conqueror! Although Satan might be ruler of this world – temporarily – his reign is limited by your sovereign God. And furthermore, his coming end is spelled out in Scripture: already his place of punishment has been prepared and is waiting for him to take up residence for the rest of eternity.
So don’t give up and don’t give in: You’re on the winning side!
Redeemer & Savior
Paul agonized in his epistle to the Romans about the struggle of spiritual warfare, flesh and mind at war with one another. On those days when the flesh gives in, you can empathize with his lament, “Oh wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from the body of this death?!” Thankfully, he goes on to answer his own question – Jesus Christ has made us free from the law of sin and death!
Does it ever seem that sin abounds within your heart, bubbling over with frustration, envy, worry, and doubt? The wonder of salvation is that where sin abounds, grace does much more abound. Your sin can never go beyond the measure of God’s grace toward you. Your sin was nailed to the cross with Jesus, and you were raised to life along with Him, clothed in His righteousness.
So when the sin besets you again, don’t despair. Confess to your Redeemer, who is always ready and waiting to forgive and cleanse.
Lover of Your Soul
This Commander and Redeemer does not begrudge His efforts on your behalf. No one forces Him to act. No, He fights for you because He loves you. He created you and longs to fellowship with you. Sin is the only thing that separates you from Him, and He will do everything in His power to eradicate that barrier.
He demonstrated His love for you by laying down His life for you before you ever even cared. When you were still going your merry way, doing your thing, disregarding the pain and consequences of every choice, He was tenderly and persistently pursuing you and working out a way to restore you to Himself.
So when everything seems to be going wrong and you wonder… you wonder if He really loves you, remember that He does and He’s already proven it.
Righteous & Holy
God is the only One Who can do whatever He wishes to do. With any other being, that would be some seriously dangerous power, but He alone is worthy. All He does is righteous and good and above reproach.
Trust then, that every measure He takes to draw you closer to Him and strengthen you for battle, is for your good. Sometimes He has to smash the clay to rework the vessel into something better and more beautiful, and while it hurts, it is like the pain of childbirth that leads to new life and deeper depths of love than you previously thought possible.
So when the battle rages hotter, remember the crucible must be heated to purify the gold, and that the Master Artist as at work in even this to create something more lovely and precious than ever before.
I do not know what battle you face, friend, but I know Who is on your side, and I know Who wins in the end!
Remember Whose you are… and go forth to conquer!
