Finding books that your kids like to read- or have read to them – isn’t always easy. Especially books that are not filled with rude children who are telling their parents what to do, running the show, or just being mean. That is why I was so excited to find the Channing O’Banning books– and even more excited when my kids loved them!
In the first book, we find Channing and her best friend Manny. The new boy comes to town- and Manny goes ga-ga for him. Now, I have to admit, I don’t like that we are talking about relationships in the 4th grade- however, I know that it is something 4th graders are faced with (unfortantely) now if they go to public or private school. What I do like is how the book focuses more on Channing having a healthy relationships- both in the school setting, and than, as Channing and Marco (the boy Manny goes ga-ga for) end up in Coasta Rica with their families together for the summer.
In the second book – Channing gets to discover how God is an amazing artist, and a little bit about the Wild West. I really enjoyed this book, and there were lots of ways to tie it into our homeschool units.
Both books had a high Science and Social Studies plug- which is great for the Homeschool family.
These books are funny and very well written. Even though they are from a girl perspective- my son also enjoyed reading them! They are geared for third-fifth grade students.
I was given a free copy of both books for my honest review.
