God is eternal – and everything about His character is eternal.
Leviticus 6 begins the ceremonial laws of each of the offerings that we discussed in Leviticus 1-5. These sacrifices are: The Burnt Offering, The Grain Offering, the Sin Offering, the Trespass Offering and the Peace offering. We must remember that these laws were not written to us for practice- but that we can gain insight into who God is – and to see the beautiful picture of Jesus Christ told throughout the book. Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrifice for sin! He took care of the sacrifice once and for all!
The verse I found interesting as I was reading Leviticus 6 was verses 12 and 13. In these verses, we see that the fire for the sacrifices were not to go out day or night. This was a reminder of God’s graciousness and His forgiveness. It is always there – He is extending it always.
We sin. Daily. Often, I am living moment by moment. There isn’t a time in my life – now or ever- that I am without sin. As long as I am living in this flesh, I will mess up. I will need the grace and forgiveness of God every day.
God’s passion, love and forgiveness does not go out – just like that fire. However, my passion, love and forgiveness often does. Not just for others- but for the Lord as well.
Today, I am thankful for a God who doesn’t love me, or forgive me like humans do. That His fire never goes out.
