If your family is like mine, you are transitioning from one Holiday to the next. The Christmas decorations are slowly starting to be put in boxes for another year. We are “Spring Cleaning” and working on getting our house in order for the New Year. January is a great time for a fresh start for each family member- and for our house!
Yet, New Year’s Eve is one of my favorite family days. I love talking to my kids about the goals that they will have for the next year, and favorite memories from the year that followed. Since we are a “new” family, we are still making traditions. I wanted to share a few with you that we have done- and then a few awesome ideas we are going to begin!
1) Fireworks. My kiddos love fireworks. We don’t wait for Midnight- some of mine wont make it awake that long! However, we do get together, and several family members poll together for a great firework show. Since it gets dark earlier, we tend to do more fireworks for New Year’s Eve then the Fourth of July (although this might be changing now that our kiddos are older).
2) Party Hats- We make our own party hats for our party!
3) Watching the good ol’ ball drop- to me, there is nothing more traditional then that!
4) This year, we will begin the traditions of a bonfire to burn our Christmas Tree. The kids will probably make s’mores. It will be a hoodie and blue jeans kind of night!
I have found several great ideas on Pinterest- be sure to check out my New Year’s Eve board for more great ideas- we are hoping to try some new things this year as well! I like the idea of recording each child on New Years eve (to remember how they looked and their voices!) and the idea of making a time capsule! There are some great printables there.
Maybe you have some great ideas and traditions for New Years… share them in the comments! We might share some on Facebook!
