The groceries have been bought. There is a big bird sitting in my refrigerator, and the decor is set. I am ready for Thanksgiving. I have spent two weeks wrapping my brain around verses on being thankful and thanking God for all He has done. I have taken some time to remember what all has been done for me. Now, it is time to prepare for the meal.
I have always found it a little funny that so much work goes into one meal. For us, it will mean 14 people sitting around my table. The cooking actually begins tomorrow. My mind wonders to how many days in advance those Pilgrim ladies had to get started for their feast! Oh, how I am thankful for technology!
I wanted to take just a moment to share our meal plan and also some of our traditions that we have that will make our day special.
Thanksgiving Meal Plan:
- Homemade Stuffing
- Baked Mac-n-Cheese
- Mashed Potatoes
- Green Beans
- Broccoli Casserole
- Wild Rice
- Crescent Rolls
- Cranberry Sauce
- Sweet Potatoes
- Veggie/Fruit Tray (mostly, for pre-meal munching)
Then… there will be deserts.
- Homemade Apple Pie
- Oreo Truffles
- Pumpkin Pie Cake
- Pumpkin Pie
- Chocolate Pie
We don’t plan on cooking until Sunday!!! We will have plenty of leftovers!
Traditions are big for our Thanksgiving. We spend the day together as a larger family- and here are a few of the things we do!
- We will have banana nut bread for breakfast.
- We will watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (and be excited at the end- because when Santa comes – that means we can start thinking about Christmas!)
- We will all put leaves on the tree for what we are thankful for.
- Probably a nap!
- Watching Rudolf with my Mom
- Planing Friday!
- A fire in our fireplace.
And, at some point, Peppermint, our Elf, will reappear!
What are your traditions?
Have I mentioned lately how thankful I am for YOU? You are a blessing- without you, there would be no ministry!
